Health Complaints in Queensland

If you have concerns about treatment provided by a health service or health service provider, you should lodge a complaint with the Office of the Health Ombudsman (OHO). The Ombudsman’s role includes receiving and managing complaints, deciding what action to take, and working alongside the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Outcomes of an OHO complaint can include:

  • an acknowledgement;
  • a detailed explanation;
  • an apology
  • policy or process change;
  • a refund of your out of pocket expenses; or
  • disciplinary action by the OHO, the National Board, or another entity.

We encourage you to lodge a complaint because that way your voice is added to others that have also complained. It is our hope that the greater the number of complaints about poor medical care, the higher the likelihood that improvements to our healthcare system will be made.

You can lodge your complaint online at Make a complaint – Office of the Health Ombudsman (oho.qld.gov.au) We appreciate that you might find this difficult to do because you are still focusing on your recovery and/or you feel emotionally incapable of articulating your complaint properly. It can be difficult to clearly outline what has happened to you, what your concerns are and what outcomes you wish to achieve. With our expertise, you can help you lodge a well-articulated and meaningful complaint. If you would like to know more, please contact us to arrange an obligation free appointment.
